Beautiful Lofty Things Written & directed by Dan Gotch, performed by Julie Hughett, Richard Boynton & MaryLee Sunseri
Under the direction of Dan Gotch, PacRep’s Dramaturg and Literary Manager, Julie Hughett and Richard Boynton will read the poetry and prose of the Irish poet William Butler Yeats. His work is complimented by readings from the biography of the Irish patriot Maud Gonne, Yeats’ unrequited love and muse. The readings span the rise of the Celtic Literary Revival at the beginning of the 20th Century, WWI, the Easter Rising, The Irish Civil War and the beginnings of WWII. MaryLee Sunseri will also perform Irish songs as part of the evening.
Involved with theatre for over 45 years, Dan Gotch has been an integral part of PacRep Theatre’s executive staff since 1982, as Dramaturg/Literary Manager among other duties. He has directed numerous Irish-themed plays for PacRep such as The Weir by Conor McPherson and Molly Sweeney by Brian Friel. As Artistic Director of the Poetic Drama Institute, originally based at the Cherry Center and now with PacRep, Dan directed over 50 plays including The Hostage, by Brendan Behan plus multiple original works/adaptations from Irish Literature and staging W.B.Yeats’ Cuchulain plays.
Local favorite actress Julie Hughett performed in The Weir and was the title character in Molly Sweeney. Richard Boynton has performed in many of the Irish-themed Cherry Center productions and played “Lancelot” in Dan Gotch's Celtic themed version of Camelot at the Outdoor Forest Theater. MaryLee Sunseri has played Irish music at numerous regional events. This March Yeats' reading marks a Celtic-themed reunion for all involved.
