The Adventures Of The Black Girl In Her Search for God
by George Bernard Shaw, adapted by Peter Eberhardt
From one of the most original thinkers and writers of the 20th century comes a presentation of this insightful and humorous fable by George Bernard Shaw, THE ADVENTURES OF THE BLACK GIRL IN HER SEARCH FOR GOD.
The short story, written in 1932, by the British playwright presented a wry and devastating unmasking of people's "gods" -- none of which had anything to do with God. Shaw, outraged at the abuse of Africans by Europeans created an emerging feminist figure in the black girl, who encounters a series of characters that exposed many of the foolish ideas about God in conventional religions. Her adventures resulted in a bold expose of European racism, and gave life to a mythic story of spiritual seeking in a feminist adventurer, with strong mental powers and delightfully humorous ways.
This month's WORDS ON STAGE presentation features local actors Kaylin Shubnell in the title role, accompanied by Peter Eberhardt in Eberhardt's adaptation of the wry and satiric short story by the British playwright.
