This class offers a fun opportunity for children to explore Shakespeare’s exciting characters, language and stories. Course will focus on creative play, character creation, and rehearsal, culminating in a video performance of an abbreviated Shakespeare play. Click to Register ​​​

Discover the power of voice! In this new age of podcasts, the “old time radio” genre is more alive than ever, and the chops you’ll develop in this class will last a lifetime! Using only your voice and sound effects, we will teleport to another time, place, and new dimension! From the timelessly adorable Little Orphan Annie to the terrifying Twilight Zone predecessor “Suspense,” radio plays have entertained the world for nearly 100 years. Students will practice creativity and enhance their performance skills (including emotion, diction, projecting, and character building) with theater games, working up to our final vocal performance! Click to Register ​​​​​

Unleash your creativity and learn the powerful tools needed to write for the stage, tv, and film. You will learn the process of writing, which you can apply to any script you craft. The class will include writing warm-ups and prompts to get the creative juices flowing.  Click to Register ​​​​​​

Students will be introduced to a wide spectrum of musical theatre dance styles, beginning with the genre of Broadway musicals,as a whole. Then, they will investigate a deeper study of several well-known individual choreographers, including Bob Fosse and Michael Bennett.

SoDA’s Saturday Academy will encourage students grades 1 through 12 to find and develop their own level of creative confidence through theatre. Utilizing the disciplines and techniques of the dramatic arts−speech, movement, pantomime, stage combat, historical characterization, improvisation, and more - students learn to enhance their awareness, self-esteem and the ability to work with others towards a common goal. Starting with theatre basics, students advance to a more challenging curriculum on a year-by-year basis. This will culminate in a “Spring Festival” for all the family to enjoy on our historic Outdoor Stage.  Click to Register ​​​​​​
